Consultant & Assessments Counsellor's Report

Two years ago we decided to improve our referral procedure and the task was offered to well guess the person who suggested it! Therefore we now lighten Raksha's work a little by using a much shorter intake questionnaire basically name, address and phone numbers plus a good time for me to call the perspective client back. This new work meant that I have had to learn
many new skills, mainly how to engage with the client in a few seconds using only one tool: the voice.

The main gain to us is in getting to know when/where/who to allocate to each person from our culturally diverse workforce of dedicated volunteers. Also, I do listen carefully for any past problems and if necessary gain permission to contact other professionals such as doctors, school teachers or social workers, which has developed our partnership working in Brent. Of
course, I always ask if the client would like to ask anything. To date the nicest remark was "No thanks, I was wondering what counselling would be like but now I know, its like this call isn't it?"

Although this service is an extra expense for us, its well worth taking the time, and being almost anonymous means the allocated volunteer is still free to start afresh.

My role as Consultant means having many different hats that I store in an old cupboard! Due to my many years in social work and bereavement counselling I have acquired extensive knowledge, which I am glad to share. I act as Deputy Co-ordinator, Proof Reader, Editor, Ghostwriter, Supervisor and general listener for those who seek my services. It's a job I enjoy and helps us maintain and develop professionalism of our services.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us and helped us provide our services since 1987.
