Information Technology Consultant's Report
As August 17th passed I realised that the BBS website www.brentbereavement.org has been up and running for a whole year - and no crashes! The site's had 245 visitors to date and although the website has been updated nine times I am still waiting for a certain person's photograph!
I would very much like to take this opportunity to thank Ford Credit for supplying BBS with four of their retired computers. With some forehead scratching and tweaking inside the cases, three are working well. The fourth didn't survive and was utilised for spare parts - no wastage!
In April we changed our Internet Service Provider to BT and now have easier Internet access whenever needed. Another big event this year was the networking of all the office computers and linking them to a dedicated printer. Groan followed groan in the office, as the always-busy staff couldn't consistently access the printer. These groans transmitted themselves down a landline and echoed in my ear. More tweaking (not of my ear!) solved that bug in the system and we recently acquired a second printer for the office network.
Scouring the Web for modem-sharing software proved to be a big challenge on our shoestring budget. However, this was achieved and now the one modem is serving two computers and Carole is a happier bunny!
A new site is under construction as I write and is scheduled to be unveiled in October. Hopefully it will include profiles of all the office personnel. Our www address will remain the same: www.brentbereavement.org.
Our new E-mail address is: brentbs@btinternet.com.
